The Figure

What It Costs, in US Dollars

Both knees replaced in one admission in Mumbai run roughly $5,300 to $8,000 for the hospital package and both implants, with seven nights in hospital.

Whether both knees can safely be done together depends on your heart, lungs and general fitness. It is decided after review, not promised in advance.

Included and Excluded

What the Figure Covers

The total above is the hospital package plus the implant. Indian hospital packages usually exclude the implant, so always ask: “Is the implant included in this figure?” The package covers a fixed number of nights in hospital.

What no package covers

  • Flights, for you and anyone travelling with you
  • Visa fees
  • Accommodation before admission and for roughly two weeks after discharge
  • Physiotherapy once you have left the hospital
  • Treatment of complications, which are uncommon but sit outside every package

What moves the number

  • Room category. A shared room and a suite differ by more than a lakh on the same operation. You are choosing comfort, not surgical quality.
  • The implant chosen. Which is right depends on your age, bone quality and activity level, not on your budget.
  • Your own health. Diabetes, cardiac history or obesity mean more workup before surgery and sometimes a longer stay.
  • Length of stay. Packages cover a fixed number of nights; beyond that, each day is billed separately.

Your Stay

How Long You Will Be in Mumbai

Plan on roughly three and a half to four weeks in Mumbai: the single-knee timeline below, plus about a week, because both knees done together add roughly a week.

Comparing with home

Compare totals, not headline prices. Take the figure above, add flights for you and one companion, visa fees and about three weeks of accommodation, then set it against a written quote at home — including what any waiting time costs you. For one straightforward knee from a nearby country the gap can be modest; for both knees, or for revision surgery, it usually stays large.

Cost

Bilateral Knee Replacement Cost — Frequently Asked

In Mumbai, roughly $5,300 to $8,000 for both knees in one admission, covering the hospital package (seven nights, single or deluxe room) and both implants. Flights, visa, accommodation and outpatient physiotherapy are extra.

For many patients, yes, but not for everyone. It depends on your heart, your lungs and your general fitness, and it is decided after your imaging and history have been reviewed. Bilateral surgery means a longer hospital stay and a longer trip.

About a week more than for one knee — so plan on three and a half to four weeks in total.
